Orphic are AR glasses that explore the realm of immersive art. These modern and trendy glasses give users the ability to change any environment into an interactive art exhibit that excites their senses and allows them to experience art beyond static images.

THE CHALLENGE

Exploring the possibilities of Augmented Reality

The objective of this short term project was to design a set of glasses integrated with AR technology to deliver a unique experience. My challenge was to design a product that was dynamic, intuitive, and beauitiful to look at and use.

BACKGROUND RESEARCH

Why immersive art?

“Digital technology releases expression from physical material, like canvas and paint, and creates an existence with the possibility for transformation,”  - Takashi Kudo, Communications Director of teamLab in Tokyo.

Immersive/interactive art exhibits have taken the world by storm. Their ability to transport viewers to a different dimension to experience art on a grander scale has blurred the lines between fantasy and reality. Experiences offered by Meow Wolf, Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirrors , and teamLab have attracted individuals from all over the world, and continues to bring in millions every year. Meow Wolf, alone, attracted over 400,000 visitors and generated over $4.8 million within their first year of opening.

MOOD BOARD

Researching eyewear trends

I analyzed different trends in eyewear to create a set of glasses that were both stylish and futuristic. I particularly drew inspiration

from sci-fi movies, 90s streetwear, and current trends in high fashion.

DEVELOPMENT

Sketching

Drawing inspiration from my mood board I designed a set of minimalist frames with a detachable and interchangeable lens.

 DEVELOPMENT

Prototyping

I prototyped multiple 3D models in order to refine the fit and add subtle details.

TECH MEETS FASHION

Unlike other current Augmented Reality glasses that are bulky and only meant to be worn in certain environments, Orphic's sleek and and minimal form allows it to be worn as a stylish accessory, that just so happens to have the power to transport the wearers to a "different dimension" of sorts.

REAL TIME INTERACTIONS

Orphic allows users to interact with what they are seeing in real time, further adding to the feeling of being fully immersed into a sensory experience that goes beyond static images.

THE POWER TO CREATE

There are two sides of the coin. While, Orphic may be worn for people to experience artists' works, artists also have the ability to create their own artwork that other viewers may experience. Orphic gives the ability to create pieces on a 4D canvas.

A CONSTANTLY CHANGING ENVIRONMENT

The fantastic thing about augmented reality is that it is not bound by space, it can constantly evolve and change. This gives users the ability to experience something new and exciting each time they put on Orphic.
